A complaint has been submitted to Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) against prosecutors and judges who consider following Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) politicians on social media a crime.
Prosecutor Mehmet Tahir Avcıbaşı had filed an indictment against five students from Amasya University for “following HDP’s former Co-Chair Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş, HDP former MPs İdris Baluken, Ferhat Encü, Faysal Sarıyıldız and HDP Siirt MP Meral Danış Beştaş on Twitter”.
Amasya Heavy Penal Court’s presiding and member judges accepted the indictment and a lawsuit was brought against the students.
Meral Danış Beştaş filed a criminal complaint to HSK Department of 2nd Bureau via her lawyer against prosecutor Avcıbaşı and the judges who accepted the indictment.
“HDP wants to be criminalized”
In the petition, it was stated that HDP attempted to be criminalized:
“The students were asked of them following HDP politicians on Twitter, and even the trials continue the HDP and its MPs were criminalized.
“Following Twitter of HDP politicians were considered by the prosecutor a crime based on offense of propagandizing for a terrorist organization and the indictment was unlawfully accepted by the judges in the same manner”.
In the complaint, charges of "willful malpractice", "inciting people to enmity and hatred", insulting Turkish Nation, Republic of Turkey and its institutions" and "crimes against humanity" were pressed against the judges and prosecutors. (AS/TK)
