The Communist Party of Turkey's (TKP) winning candidate in the southeastern province of Dersim, Mehmet Fatih Maçoğlu, has not been given the mandate to assume office.
Maçoğlu said that the Election Council did not give him mandate on the ground of the "security problem today."
"Not any explanation was made. It was said, 'We don't approve giving the mandate today because of a security problem and we don't want to explain that,'" said Maçoğlu.
"We will meet this in maturity. Because this is not a thing that something that puts a spoke in our wheel. I have no doubt that all of us will meet this in maturity and calmness.
"Tomorrow, after taking our mandate at around 9 a.m. or 9.30 a.m., we will state when we will go to the municipality. I say this considering another delay tomorrow."
Maçoğlu also commented on the issue on Twitter, saying, it is "like a joke."
Election Council: Maçoğlu will be given mandate on April 5
Dersim Central District Election Council released a statement later in the day, saying that he will be given his mandate on tomorrow (April 5).
"The mandate of Mehmet Fatih Maçoğlu, who has been elected Tunceli (another name of Dersim) Mayor will be prepared and delivered to the relevant person on April 5, 2019.
