Members of the outlawed militant Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) opened gunfire on the Geyiksu Gendarmerie Battalion Command military outpost in Dersim (central eastern Anatolia) on Saturday evening (3 September). The gendarmerie command carried out searches and scans in the local region of Esenyurt (village of Çılga). The assailants used rifles and killed Second Lieutenant Bahadır Fuat Buharlıoğlu and Specialist Sergeant Bekir Erciyes.
Soldiers were brought to the outpost after the attack. Clashes reportedly still continued at some places on Sunday (4 September).
Two village guards killed
Two paramilitary village guards were killed in an armed conflict in the area of Yeşiltaş as part of the Yüksekova district in the south-eastern province of Hakkari.
According to the YuksekOva news portal, village guards Seyhan Çoruh and Resul Çoruh died in a clash that occurred at around 1.00 am on 4 September in the Yeşiltaş area. (EKN/VK)
