Gunshots were heard around 5:45 pm local time outside Istanbul’s Police Headquarters in Vatan Street. Advocates at the building spoke to bianet.
“A clash broke out. We heard a lot of gunshots,” they said.
It was also reported that those who were waiting outside the headquarters ran inside.
According to various online media sources, two assailants were identified and both were shot by police fire. Two policemen were reportedly injured.
Vatan Street has been closed on both sides.
After the incident, Istanbul Governor Vasip Şahin released a statement, informing that “one woman carrying a bomb and weapon was shot dead".
Later on, he also added that the second runaway assailtant was caught. (AS/BM)
