The main opposition Republican People's Party's (CHP) head of youth organization in Denizli province has been remanded in custody yesterday (September 28) for "insulting the president."
Tugay Odabaşıoğlu was detained on Monday because of video footage showing his words about President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during a closed-doors meeting on September 18.
Yesterday, a penal judgeship for peace ordered his arrest.
CHP members, including the party's vice-chair Gülizar Biçer-Karaca and MP Mehmet Göker, denounced the arrest in front of the Denizli Courthouse.
Making a statement in the name of the group, CHP Denizli Provincial Chair Nuri Çavuşoğlu said the audio and the video did not match and Odabaşıoğlu was arrested based on evidence obtaine illegally.
"We are getting through days when the judiciary has become politicized and judges and prosecutors cannot decide freely,"he said. (KÖ/VK)
