CHP, Turkey’s main opposition party, held a demonstration in Taksim Square this afternoon, protesting the alleged phone recordings between PM Erdoğan and his son in the aftermath of December 17 Corruption Probe Raids.
While the police took notice in Taksim Sqaure, scores of CHP members including Istanbul mayor candidate Mustafa Sarıgül attended the demonstration.
Protestors held banners that said “Did Sümeyye come?”, “OK, daddy. Understood, daddy”, “Wake up, there is a thief”, “We will deal with it at night”, “Better vanish it”, “Don’t speak overtly, you are being tapped Bilal”, “Only 30 million euros left”, “Money takes a lot space, daddy”, “The lightbulb is broken” - slogans related to the alleged phone conversation.
30 million euros, only fake
The demonstrators brought fake euro banknotes with a value of 30 million euros - in reference with Bilal Erdoğan’s alleged response to PM.
Mustafa Sarıgül and CHP Istanbul Organization Chair Oğuz Kaan Salıcı addressed to the crowd in front of the massive volume of fake banknotes.
From time to time, some of the banknotes were casted at the demonstrators who replied with slogans “Government resign”, “Thief Tayyip Erdoğan”, and “Bribe everywhere, corruption everywhere”.
Sarıgül: Why does the media keep silent?
Sarıgül criticized that only Halk TV and Artı 1 TV broadcasted the aforementioned video: “You must spread the world to the world.”
Reminding that Taksim Square was still barred to demonstrations, Sarıgül pledged that he would never make people confront the police if he were elected as mayor.
Oğuz Kaan Salıcı, on the other hand, has come up with 30 million euros - the alleged amount that PM and his son talked about “vanishing”.
“This amount can fill the stomachs of thousands of people. PM must either prove that these recordings are fake or resign immediately.”
Following the speeches, CHP members distributed the symbolic banknotes to the attendees. (NV/BM)
