Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Parliamentary Group Deputy Chair Engin Altay held a press conference at the Parliament in the capital city of Ankara yesterday (April 15).
Addressing the reporters, Altay slammed the summaries of proceedings seeking to lift the legislative immunity of eight CHP MPs, including CHP Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, and two Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MPs. Referring to Parliamentary Speaker Mustafa Şentop, Altay said:
"While there is an explicit provision in the Constitution, are you incapable of sending these pieces of rubbish ("paçavra" in Turkish, literally meaning a "rag") back to the prosecutor with the back of your hand?
"You, the prosecutor who has no idea about the law or conventions. There is an explicit provision in the Constitution: No investigation shall be launched into the issues alleged by the Members of the Parliament at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Don't you know it? Dear Mr. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is an İzmir MP. He cannot be held accountable for his thoughts expressed during the group meeting in this capacity?
"Alas, those who think that their positions are their own possessions first jump down the judiciary's throat and turn the judiciary into their household troops." (DŞ/SD)
