Republican People's Party (CHP) Ordu MP Mustafa Adıgüzel held a press statement about the recent situation in Turkey amid novel coronavirus (COVID-19) at the Parliament yesterday (September 9).
Noting that one out of every 30 MPs has contracted the virus, Adıgüzel has underlined that there are also mayors and political party leaders currently treated for the disease. He has raised concerns that COVID-19 has now entered every apartment in the country.
In his speech, main opposition MP Adıgüzel has especially underlined that the daily coronavirus numbers announced by Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca do not reflect the truth. He has shared his own table:
"It is a picture that we have prepared based on the data that we received from all parts of Turkey, the members of Health Laborers' Union, metropolitan municipalities and CHP's municipalities.
"If 105 thousand tests are to be conducted today, the number of cases is 16 thousand. 150 out of every 1,000 tests turn out to be positive.
'Our number of daily cases is 16 thousand'
"We have 16 thousand new cases. The Minister omits one zero. Since the pandemic broke out, the death toll has been registered in the records of our five large cities, namely İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Adana and Antalya.
"The death toll is 8 thousand 850. 30 million people live in these cities. If it is 8 thousand 850 for our 30 million people, when we proportion it to our 82 million people, the true death toll in Turkey is 23 thousand.
'I want to file a criminal complaint'
"The number of cases across Turkey is 980 thousand, which is almost four times higher than 285 thousand, which was announced by the Minister. One out of every 40 people has met COVID-19 in Turkey.
Adıgüzel has also indicated that if the Minister of National Education allows face-to-face education, COVID-19 will enter every house in Turkey by the end of the year: "I want to file a criminal complaint against the Health Minister and the top government official for causing losses of life."
