The head of the main opposition Republican People's Party's (CHP) İstanbul organization has filed an appeal against the governor's ban on the 20th Feminist Night March.
Filing the appeal in the name of Canan Kaftancıoğlu, the CHP lawyers demanded the İstanbul Administrative Court on duty lift the ban.
The Feminist Night March has been held on every Women's Day on the İstiklal Avenue in İstanbul's Taksim since 2003.
The Governor's Office announced yesterday (March 7) the demonstration would not be allowed as per the Law no. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations and the Law no. 5442 on Provincial Administration.
It said the people might hold "lawful events in the places and routes which were previously declared as sites for marches and demonstrations as per the Law no. 5442." (EMK/VK)
