Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairperson Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's attorney Celal Çelik has been taken into custody.
Celal Çelik, who is also a member of the CHP High Disciplinary Board, has been taken into custody in Ankara on demand of the İstanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office as a part of an investigation into the "Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ)".
Resigned from judgeship in 2011 saying "Law is dead"
In 2011, Çelik had resigned from his position as a judge in the Supreme Court of Appeals saying "law is dead" and has been working as an attorney since then.
Pointing out to the mounting pressure on judges and prosecutors Çelik said his press statement:
"I chose not to be a part of the game and process and resign from my position as a judge".
Stating that the judiciary in Turkey had moved away from serving the rule of law and justice recently, he had slammed the Ergenekon and Balyoz investigations in his press statement and pointed out that the prosecutors and judges involved in these investigations and prosecutions were being rewarded despite complaints against them.
