Chilean government has admitted that Pablo Neruda might have been murdered following dictator Augusto Pinochet come to power via coup d'etat.
In statement by Chilean Interior Ministry, it is admitted that a ministry document which was published by El Pais newspaper from Spain was correct.
"Responsibility of a third party is highly likely in Neruda's death," said in the document in question.
Neruda known for having prostate cancer lost his life at the age of 69 on September 23, 1973 by natural causes, according to official documents.
Pablo Neruda who won nobel prize in literature in 1971 was a member of Chilean Communist Party.
Doubts
There have been rumours over Neruda's death for a long time.
It was earlier alleged regarding Neruda's death that he was poisoned by Pinochet's spies and Chilean Communist Party had demanded his grave to be dig up.
The grave in Isla Negra was dig up in 2013. As a result of the examination, his cause of death was announced as cancer.
The discussions have been fueled by claim in 2011 of Manuel Araya, the former driver of Neruda.
Araya claimed that General Pinochet had ordered the dissident poet to be murdered, upon this state spies gave an injection that causes heart attack. (YY/TK)
