"Children's rights abusers should not go unpunished,” Gundem Children Association said, reminding November 20 to be Global Day of Children Rights. The association added that Turkey has yet to fulfill its obligations against children's rights abuses as it signed the UN Children's Rights Declaration.
"Today is the 8th death anniversary of Uğur Kaymaz. The perpetrators were released in September as the judge ruled that they defended themselves. The government is still killing children," the association said in a report.
In 2004, Turkish security forces raided an apartment in Kızıltepe distinct, Mardin, shooting Uğur Kaymaz dead along with his father who was allegedly a "terrorist".
50 rights abuses reported in 2011
According to the report, the number of children whose rights were abused by state officials is 50.
The report cited other names killed by security forces and others who were subject to torture in Pozanti Prison. It also mentioned of children killed in Roboski Massacre--a Turkish air strike that left 34 civilians dead in Turkish- Iraqi border.
"Our shame, unrest and anger won't go away as long as children like Uğur Kaymaz would be killed with their slippers in their feet and perpetrators would go unpunished," the association said, demanding the state officials to take immediate action. (YY)
