Shot to death by his friend in an alleged accident, a 15-year-old child has lost his life in the hospital where he was treated.
The incident happened in the district of Yüreğir in Adana. Working in a car wash in Ulubatlı Hasan Neighborhood, child worker H.S. (15) found a gun in his workplace and started playing with it. As the gun went off, he shot U.A., another child worker in the same car wash, in the head.
Informed about the incident, paramedics went to the scene and took seriously wounded U.A. to the Yüreğir Public Hospital in an ambulance. The wounded child could not be saved despite all efforts of medical teams. Police are now searching for H.S., who fled after the incident.
Another child lost his life last week
Most recently, on August 26, a 14-year-old child lost his life in Nevşehir province after his rifle accidentally went off while hunting. Wounded in the incident, E.K. was taken to the public hospital by paramedic teams after his friends called the gendarmerie and ambulance. He lost his life while he was being transferred from the public hospital to the city center.
'Guns either kill children or make them murderers'
Umut (Hope) Foundation has long been warning that the firearms left within the reach of children lead to irrecoverable sorrows.
In a recent statement, the Umut Foundation has protested that "the firearms easily accessible by children at homes either kill them or make them murderers unintentionally." Some of the news compiled by the Foundation in June and July 2020 were as follows:
