After a child worker was crushed by an excavator in Turkey's Mediterranean province of Antalya, one company official has been arrested.
After Halil Şenbüyük (16), who was driving the excavator, lost his life in Serik district of Antalya, D.Y. and M.Y. brothers, the officials of the company that owns the excavator, were detained by the Gendarmerie Command teams on the grounds that they had negligence in the incident.
Referred to the courthouse after the related formalities were completed, suspect D.Y. has been arrested by the penal judgeship of peace on duty while M.Y. has been released on probation.
On December 10, Halil Şenbüyük lost his life after the vehicle that he was driving went off the road and fell off a 50-meter cliff in the Nebiler Neighborhood. The child was crushed by the excavator.
While gendarmerie, fire brigade and paramedic teams were sent to the scene of incident, it was reported that Şenbüyük lost his life.
Rescued from the vehicle, the deceased body of the child was sent to the mortuary of the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institution.
The child had been working there for three months.
Minister said struggle was 'going well'
Making a statement on the occasion of June 12 World Day Against Child Labor, Minister of Family, Labor and Social Services Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk said that Turkey's struggle against child labor was successfully continuing and indicated that the rate of child labor dropped from 10.3 percent in 1999 to 4.4 percent in 2019.
