Republican People’s Party (CHP) Vice President Sezgin Tanrıkulu requested parliamentary research about child abuse and due precautions to be taken.
Deputy Tanrıkulu drew attention that child abuse cases were 2414 in 2006 while it increased to 16,827 in 2011 according to the data of Minister of Justice.
Child abuse increased 697% between years 2006 and 2011.
It was stated that children between 15 and 18 years old weren’t included in the data.
Sezgin Tanrıkulu:
“It an ugly truth; many child abuse incidents aren’t conveyed to jurisdiction and most of the cases are hidden from the public.
“Tens of thousands children in our country are exposed to child abuse every day. It is a social problem and violation of human rights.”
“Even though we are a part of Council of Europe Convention on Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, the government doesn’t make any effort and can't even protect children under the protection of the state in prisons, youth detention centers and orphanages.” (YY/BD)
