The number of mobile phone subscriptions has increased to 22,298,624 in İstanbul in 2019 with a 1.6 percent increase from the previous year, according to figures released by the municipality's statistical office.
With a population of over 15 million, İstanbul is the largest city of Turkey, a country of 83.1 million people.
Out of all mobile subscribers, 3 million are 2G and the rest are 3G or 4G, according to the figures.
The number of cell phone subscriptions in the entire country is 80,790,877, slightly below the population.
The number of fixed phone lines decreased by 3.2 percent to 3 million in İstanbul and 0.7 percent in Turkey over the past year.
Broadband internet subscriptions
The number of broadband internet users in the metropolis increased by 1.7 percent to 19,484,356 in 2019. It increased by 2.9 percent to 76,639,695 in the entire country.
Out of all broadband internet subscriptions, 3,842,640 are fixed and 15,641,716 are mobile in İstanbul.
The number of fixed-broadband subscriptions increased by 9.8 in 2018 and by 5.6 in 2019. Among fixed connections, the number of cable internet subscribers increased by 17.1 percent and fiber internet subscribers increased by 14.9 percent.
Mobile broadband subscriptions increased by 10.8 percent in 2018 and 0.8 percent in 2019.
