Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Deputy Group Chair and Adana MP Meral Danış Beştaş has submitted a parliamentary inquiry about the case of Aziz Kanar (33), who has been in home confinement and is with 92 percent disability.
The inquiry stated that Kanar is heavily disabled and he cannot see a doctor due to the home confinement.
Following information about Kanar’s condition were included in the inquiry:
“Living in district of Viranşehir, Urfa, 33-year-old Aziz Kanar was given a disability report of 92 percent as a result of an occupational accident he had in 2001.
“Kanar was detained four times in the last two years on charges of ‘founding illegal organization’, ‘bomb attack’, ‘participating in armed assaults’. However, Kanar is on wheelchair and he is in no condition to commit these crimes. A person who cannot walk and cannot live on by himself committing these crimes is against natural course of life.
“He was detained along with 15 others in a home raid launched on December 2, 2015. He was dragged to the police station. Afterwards, he was threatened with gun and battered.
“Lastly, on February 17, 2017, he was again detained in a home raid carried out against Hakim ve Savcılar Sitesi in Viranşehir following a bomb attack. He remained in custody for 12 days. He was deposed on the 13th day. The prosecutor’s office demanded his arrest. He was released on probation and put under house arrest. He has been in home confinement for 13 months now”. (AS/TK)
