A car exploded around 1 p.m. in the border town Reyhanlı in the southern province of Hatay.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan initially announced three people in the car, all of whom are Syrians, were killed in the explosion: "It is clear that there was a bomb in the car. It may have a connection with terrorism." The killed people were identified, Erdoğan added, citing the Minister of Interior.
The Governorship of Hatay later said two people were killed an one people was hospitalized.
The car exploded when it was parked on Mehmet Akif Ersoy Street. After the explosion, the police and firefighters were sent to the area. The police are continuing the examination of the area.
The explosion might be caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), the Demirören News Agency reported.
