An explosion has taken place in a vehicle in front of İzmir Courthouse Door C. A large number of ambulances and fire brigade have been dispatched to the scene.
A clash erupted following a bomb-laden vehicle be detonated in front of the courthouse. Police officer Fethi Sekin and court clerk Musa Can lost their lives. Three police officers and four attorneys were injured.
State run Anadolu Agency reported that two attackers were killed, efforts to capture another one are ongoing. Seven people including two police officers were injured in the explosion.
Özcan: Condition of the four injured attorneys is fine
Interviewing to CNN Türk, İzmir Bar Association President Aydın Özcan said:
"There were sharings [on social media] that why there was no bombing in İzmir. We had filed a criminal complaint. We were literally pointed as a target. We are deeply sorry. There is no loss of life. We wish the wounded people a speedy recovery".
Özcan also added that the wounded attorneys are not in critical condition.
Radio and Television Supreme Board (RTÜK) announced that a temporary gag order has been issued by the Prime Ministry on the explosion in İzmir.
Governor: Arms and ammo were found on the attackers
Two kalashnikovs, eight RPG-7 cartridges and eight hand grenades were found on the two killed attackers, according to the information İzmir Governor Erol Ayyıldız shared.
Furthermore, it was determined that the attackers strapped the magazines reversely, which is a method used to not lose time while changing magazines.
İzmir Governor Erol Ayyıldız also added that according to information obtained, it is thought it was the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) that launched the attack. (NV/TK)
