Journalists’ Union of Turkey (TGS) has announced that press insurances of as many as 100 journalists have been cancelled.
The TGS issued the following statement on its website and social media:
“Doğan Group has been cancelling press cards of as many as 100 journalists working at news sites such as hurriyet.com.tr, posta.com.tr, fanatik.com.tr unlawfully.
“Online editors, who are supposed to be worked under Press Labor Act, are asked to give up their legal rights by signing a paper.
“This action is unlawful and means illegal employment.
“We will meet you in courthouses if you don’t change this decision. Media workers are not abandoned. We will take down your law of jungle and eventually establish a humanitarian working order”. (EA/TK)
