In a statement delivered to Ankara representatives of newspapers and television channels at TRT Headquarters yesterday (August 7), Government Spokesperson Bekir Bozdağ said that nobody has been arrested over tweets:
“Claiming that people are arrested due to their tweets is a perception management. There is not a single soul who was arrested in Turkey for posting tweet”.
However, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior Press Center on August 7, 2016, legal actions were taken against 3,710 people during March-August 2016.
The Ministry had announced that 1,656 of the 3,710 people were arrested, 1,203 were released on probation, 84 were in custody and 767 were released from custody.
At the time of the statement it was mentioned that judicial process was continuing for 10,000 people who were identified.
Bekir Bozdağ was the Minister of Justice during that period. (HK/EKN/TK)
