Government Spokesperson Bekir Bozdağ has said that a commission to protect children has been formed.
Bozdağ made the statement following the Council of Ministers meeting held under the presidency of President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan yesterday (February 19).
Vice Prime Minister Recep Akdağ will head the commission. The other members are Minister of Justice Abdülhamit Gül, Minister of Family and Social Policies Fatma Betül Sayan Kayan, Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu, Minister of National Education İsmet Yılmaz and Minister of Health Ahmet Demircan.
“It will submit report to the government”
Bozdağ said:
“The purpose of forming this commission is to review all precautions taken to protect our children, study what needs to be done for effective protection and submit a report to our government about the things needed to be done legally and administratively.
“Every field including increasing the penalties will be handled one by one and they will be included in the report.
“Additional penal sanctions will be implemented about the crimes committed against children under 12.
“We all need to know that this issue cannot be solved with penalties only. Indeed, the heaviest penalties will be imposed”. (BK/TK)
