Five people were taken into custody in İstanbul yesterday (February 10) on the grounds that they had painted slogans demanding the release of the 11 students who have so far been arrested for joining the protests against the appointed rector of Boğaziçi University.
A group of people wanted to hold a press statement at İstanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan and express their solidarity with the detained students. At least nine of them have been taken into custody.
As for the reason of their detention, the police have referred to the ban on events and meetings imposed by the Kağıthane Sub-Governor's Office due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The detained persons have been taken to the İstanbul Security Directorate on Vatan Avenue in Fatih in two separate vehicles.
