Nominations have been announced for The Bobs 2013: Best Online Activism Award. Among 34 categories in 14 languages, bianet was nominated for Reporters Without Borders Award.
This years categories included: Best Blog, Best Innovation, Best Social Activism, Reporters Without Borders, Global Media Forum, Most Creative and Original.
Submissions to the contest can be in the any of the following languages: Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Ukrainian. Each of the 14 languages has a Best Blog category and Best Person to Follow category of its own.
Selected by a jury panel of 15 prominent journalists, finalists will be chosen through online voting. Voters can vote once per category per 24 hours for the "Users Award". The jury, on the other hand, selects the "Jury Award" winner in 6 categories.
Nominations in Turkish language
Under 6 different categories, nominated blogs in Turkish language were listed as follows:Emrah Göker’s İstifhanesi (Best Blog), Hesapla Bakalım (Best Innovation), Savaş Karşıtları (Best Social Activism), bianet (Reporters Without Borders), Küreselleşmeden Sonra (Global Media Forum Award), Afili Filintalar (Most Creative and Original).
Best Blog nominees in Turkish language were as follows: Yeşil Gazete, Başkaldıran İnsan, Meren’in Fotoğraf Günlüğü, Siminya, Emrah Göker’in İstifhanesi, Alternatif Bilişim, Yüksekova Haber, Konstantiniye Notları, Mare Nostrum and Cemilertem.
Best Person to Follow nominees in Turkish were as follows: A. Murat Erten, Emrah Göker, Erkan Saka, Deniz Tan, İsmail Hakkı Polat, Ece Temelkuran, Kaan Sezyum, 5 Posta, Laforgue and Dejeneratör.
This year's jury included: Özgür Uçkan, Falk Steiner, Alena Popova, Hu Yong, Araş Abadpur, Georgia Popplewell, Mustafa Nayyem, Ravish Kumar, Marilin Gonzalo, Enda Nasution, Rosana Herman, Shahidul Alam, Tarık Amr, Clair Ulrich and Christian Mihr.
Polls will close on May 7 when all the winners will be announced at re:publica in Berlin.Winners of the Jury Awards will be invited to pick up their prizes at the Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum in Bonn, Germany, on June 17-19.
The Bobs Awards counts one of the biggest contests in the world for blogs, social media and internet sites, organized by Deutsche Welle - Germany's public media publishing institution serving in 30 languages.
Established in 2004, the Bobs awards honor websites in 14 languages that champion the open exchange of ideas and freedom of expression. The awards aim to show that this new form of communication was worthy of being taken seriously and to point to the excellent example of work being done online to foster dialogue across language barriers.
