M.F., a local administrator of Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) in the southern province of Osmaniye, reportedly murdered his daughter Emine Fırat (20) with a pistol.
BDP Women Assemblies released a statement, condemning the incident.
“We, as women, have no tolerance left towards killers of women. The fact that Emine Fırat was massacred by our local administrative Müslüm Fırat is making this even more unacceptable. We will pursue this cause until it is turned to the favor of women.”
Some of the highlights from the statement included:
“We are calling the male dominant mentality one more time. Whoever commits a crime against women anywhere, they will be confronted by Kurdish women. This is warning to the father of Emine Fırat and all other men who don’t allow right to live to women. We will not submit to your demands and we will pursue our cause until we will have the male dominant mentality convicted.
“We are also calling to the sensitive fraction o the society. Every day averagely 5 women are massacred in this country. More than this are being raped or sexually harassed. Say stop to this torment.
“We are also calling women here. Let’s put an end to being a victim of this mentality that declared a war on women’s freewill to determine her life. Provide your own and legitimate defense. Don’t submit on being massacred by men.
“As BDP Women Assemblies, we have never accepted massacres on women as a result of male dominant mentality. We will not thus accept it on the case of Emine Fırat either. We will pursue this cause until it is turned to the favor of women.” (ÇT/BM)
