We talked to deputy candidate Bülent Bektaşoğlu from Republican People’s Party (CHP) and deputy candidate Orhan Erzurum from Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) in Giresun (a province on the Black Sea coast).
Bülent Bektaşoğlu: Jobless people are majority in Giresun
Deputy candidate Bülent Bektaşoğlu from CHP:
“Basic problem is deteriorating economy in Giresun. Giresun Port, the most important port of the Black Sea is useless. Turkish Cellulose and Paper Factories (SEKA) is closed. Union of Agricultural Cooperatives for the Sale of Hazelnuts (FİSKOBİRLİK) is finished. Pencil factory Adel is closed. Unemployment is huge. Many people migrated to other cities. Jobless people are majority in Giresun.
“People don’t take Justice and Development Party (AKP) into consideration anymore. Firstly, we must solve problems in the fields of democracy, law, human rights and freedom of expression. Our basic mission is to improve the economy.
“I think Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) should be in the parliament. The voters of HDP are also the citizens of our country. Why shouldn’t they be in the parliament?”
Orhan Erzurum: I suppose the presidential system doesn’t suit Turkey
Deputy candidate Orhan Erzurum from MHP:
“AKP deceived people with the promises for a job but people are still unemployed. There is a critical economic problem in Giresun. People now come and beg us to save them from AKP.
“AKP wants the presidential system but doesn’t reveal its content. I suppose the presidential system doesn’t suit Turkey. If the presidential system comes, republic system will be destroyed. It causes autonomy and chaos. Inner peace is disturbed and territorial integrity is broken off. If the republic system is imperiled, Turkish people respond to it.
“I don’t approve the election threshold. Each political party should be represented in the parliament. However, I don’t want HDP to be in the parliament. They collaborate with PKK. Moreover, I don’t think they represent Kurdish people.
“AKP does nothing but quarrel with Giresun people. There is no investment in here. “(EKN/BD)
