Crossing of body of Aziz Güler, who lost his life fighting against Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and being kept waited as of September 21, into Turkey has been allowed.
The body was received by his family and taken to Forensic Medicine Institution today.
The body was taken to Mehmet Akif İnan Training and Research Hospital following the autopsy.
Aziz Güler’s body will be brought to Gazi Djemevi tonight. His family has declared that time of funeral will be announced tomorrow morning.
What had happened?
Aziz Güler (27) was a final year student at Yıldız Technical University, Department of Politics and International Relations.
He had gone to Rojava 10 months ago, and lost his life on September 21.
His body was being kept in Serekaniye since that day and not delivered to the family. His father was waiting in Serekaniye to bring the body to the home town.
During this process, the family pursued several legal proceedings to receive the body. However, their appeal to sub-Governorship and Constitutional Court (AYM) failed.
The appeal was rejected by Suruç sub-Governorship by giving Council of Ministers decision as justification. Lawyers found out that there was no such decision. His older brother, Ersin Umut, lawyers and deputies met with Suruç sub-Governor again on September 28 but received a negative response since no written decision was presented.
AYM’s reason of rejecting was as follows: “It is understood clearly that the process in question doesn’t qualify to constitute a real and serious threat against applicant’s life or, material or moral integrity”.
His family had started petition to recover the body. (AS/TK)
