Azadiya Welat newspaper owner Ramazan Ölçen was detained yesterday (March 5).
According to Dihaber, Ölçen was detained during a police raid launched into his home in Turkey’s southeastern Bağlar district in Diyarbakır province.
Ölçen was then taken to the Provincial Security Directorate.
Publishing daily in Kurdish, Azadiya Welat was published from August 2006 to August 2016. On August 16, the daily was closed on charge of “acting like PKK’s media outlet by propagandizing for it”.
The daily was totally closed via Statutory Decree No. 675, which was published on the Official Gazette on October 29. (AS/TK)
