An attack was carried out on headquarters of Yeni Çağ daily last night (December 8).
A statement issued by the daily, which is known with its affiliation with the opposition wing in the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), said “A group of 30 people attacked our daily’s headquarter building in İstanbul. The aggressors entered inside the building and caused material damage. The aggressors stated to wear masks ran away from the scene”.
Coming to the building following the incident, police maintained a security cordon on the street where the building is situated.
MHP chair candidates have condemned the attack
MHP chair candidates Meral Akşener, Koray Aydın, Ümit Özdağ, Sinan Oğan, Isparta MP Nuri Okutan, Great Unity Party (BBP) Chair Mustafa Destici, Homeland Party (YURT-P) Chair Sadettin Tantan, Republican People’s Party (CHP) MP Aytun Çıray, MHP former İstanbul MP Nazif Okumuş, Union of Bars of Turkey Chair Metin Feyzioğlu and İstanbul Governor Vasip Şahin have condemned the attack.
The newspaper had covered an interview of the MHP chair candidate Oğan about negotiations carried out between the MHP and Justice and Development Party (AKP) on presidential system. Oğan said that the presidential system will eliminate the MHP. (HK/TK)
