At least 164 workers lost their lives in occupational homicides in June, according to the monthly report of the Health and Safety Labor Watch (İSİG).
The number of workers killed in occupational homicides, including refugee workers, in 11 months reached 2,017, the report showed.
149 of the killed workers last month were paid workers (workers and civil servants) and 15 were working on their own behalf.
Throughout the year, 1,722 killed workers were paid workers and 295 were working on their own behalf.
Gender
Twenty-three of the workers killed in November were women and 164 were men. Women workers were working in the sectors of agriculture, trade, food, education, general jobs and healthcare.
Throughout the year, 154 women workers and 1,863 men workers have been killed.
Children and the elderly
Three child workers and 48 workers over the age of 51 were killed last month.
Fifty-seven child workers, including 20 children younger than 14, were killed.
Refugee workers
Seven refugee workers, including three from Syria, two from Turkmenistan and one from Russia and Afghanistan each were killed in November. A total of 83 refugee workers have been killed this year.
The sectors with the highest number of deaths were construction/road, agriculture/forestry, trade/office/education, transportation, metalwork, municipality/general, healthcare, security, cement and energy.
Causes of death
The most common causes of death were falling from a height, crush, shuttle/traffic accident, Covid-19, heart attack, suicide, violence, poisoning/suffocation and electric shock.

• At least three workers lost their lives in the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant construction. Workers say the killings are being concealed.
• One in five worker deaths occurred in industry.
• In the agricultural sector, 10 farmers and seven workers lost their lives.
• Half of the deaths in the construction sector occurred because of falling from a height.
• Seven of the killed workers were union workers.
