The Laborers' Health and Occupational Safety (İSİG) Assembly released its November report today (December 4).
According to the report, at least 154 workers lost their lives in occupational homicides across Turkey in November 2018. At least 1,797 workers have died in the first eleven months of this year.
At least 1,693 miners have died since 2002
According to the November 2018 report of the İSİG Assembly,
* While 129 of the deceased 154 workers were wage earners (workers and civil servants), the other workers were working on their own behalf.
* 13 of the workers who lost their lives in November were women while the remaining 141 of them were men. The occupational homicides which claimed the lives of women workers took place in the sectors of agriculture, textile, banking, commerce, transportation, healthcare and security.

* In the occupational homicides in November, 4 children lost their lives. One of the deceased children was under the age of 14.
* In the first eleven months of 2018, which has been declared as the "World Day Against Child Labor", at least 66 children have lost their lives in occupational homicides. These figures have shown that 2018 has been the year, when the highest number of children died in occupational homicides.
* The report, which was released on the World Miners' Day, has also indicated that from 2002 to 2018, at least 1,693 mine workers lost their lives.
Majority of occupational homicides in İstanbul
* The majority of the occupational homicides took place in the sectors of construction, agriculture, transportation, commerce/bureau, mining, healthcare, security, municipality/general affairs and metal.
* As for their geographic distribution, the majority of occupational homicides occurred in İstanbul, which was followed by Aydın, İzmir, Kocaeli, Bursa, Zonguldak Antalya, Diyarbakır, Adana, Ankara, Denizli and Gaziantep.

Only 5 workers were unionized
While five of the deceased workers were members of a union, the remaining 149 workers (96.75 percent) were not union members. The unionized workers were working in the sectors of chemistry, metal and energy.
