With a decision signed by Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu and Minister of Treasury and Finance Lütfi Elvan and published in the Official Gazette earlier today (April 7), the assets of 377 people, institutions and organizations have been freezed in Turkey.
Among the people whose assets have been freezed as per this decision are Murat Karayılan, Cemil Bayık and Duran Kalkan, the executives of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), as well as Fethullah Gülen, the head of "Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ)", which is held accountable for the military coup attempt in Turkey on July 15, 2016.
The decision of the Ministers has said that the freeze is imposed as per the Article 7/3 of the Law no. 6415 on Prevention of Funding Terrorism.
The decision has noted that "the assets of the mentioned people, institutions and organizations in Turkey have been freezed, considering that there have been reasonable reasons suggesting that they committed the acts indicated in the 3rd and 4th articles of the related law."
12 pages, 4 chapters
In the 12-page decision of the Ministers, the names of 365 people and 12 institutions and organizations are listed in four groups.
The first group in the list refers to the Gülen community, while the second group refers to ISIS, the third group to the PKK and the fourth one to Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front (DHKP/C).
The first group consists of 205 people, the second group consists of 86 people, the third group consists of 65 people and 12 institutions and organizations and the fourth group consists of nine people.
Highlights from the list
In addition to Fethullah Gülen, the first list freezes the assets of Ekrem Dumanlı, the editor-in chief of Zaman newspaper, which was closed after the coup attempt in 2016; Hamdi Akın İpek, the former executive board chair of Koza İpek Holding, which was transferred to the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) after the coup attempt; Hidayet Karaca, the general manager of the Samanyolu Media Group, which was also closed after the coup attempt, and Önder Aytaç, a former faculty member of Police Academy.
PKK executives Murat Karayılan, Cemil Bayık, Duran Kalkan, Ali Haydar Kaytan, Remzi Kartal, Sabri Ok, Rıza Altun and Zübeyir Aydar as well as Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) commander Mazlum Kobani (Ferhat Abdi Şahin) are also on the list. (TP/SD)
