Mardin Co-Mayor Emin Irmak has been arrested.
Detained on November 21, Irmak was released by the court he was brought to on December 11. Irmak, who was detained again on December 12 upon prosecutor’s office’s objection, was arrested on charges of “Being a member of an [illegal] organization” and “aiding and abating an [illegal] organization” and sent to Mardin E Type Prison.
The number of arrested Democratic Regions Party (DBP) co-mayors and deputy chairs has risen to 56 with the Irmak’s arrest. As of December 12, 41 trustees were appointed to DBP-governed municipalities.
