Artist Olcay Sentenced to 11 Months 20 Days in Prison for ‘Insulting President’

İstanbul Regional Court of Justice 2nd Chamber of Penalty has sentenced artist Zuhal Olcay to 11 months 20 days in prison on charge of “insulting the president”.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s lawyer attended the hearing on behalf of Erdoğan.

Making her defense in the hearing today (July 12), Olcay said, “That was a hot tempered move which lasted for a short time. I didn’t act on the intention of insult. I demand my acquittal, or that my sentenced be converted to mulct”.

Actress and musician Zuhal Olcay was born on August 10, 1957 in Üsküdar, Istanbul.

Graduated from Ankara State Conservatory in 1976, she first started as a stage actress. Since 1983 she also started being a film actress and became famous with films like "Amansız Yol", "Kurşun Ata Ata Biter", "Bir Avuç Gökyüzü", "Halkalı Köle", and "Dünden Sonra Yarından Önce".
