Painter Haydar Özay’s giant oil canvas (5x10 meters) entitled “Gezi Resistance” can be seen in Mimarlar Odası Karaköy Branch in Istanbul throughout September and October.
The realization of the painting dates back to 2013, in the aftermath of Gezi Resistance. Invited by Mücella Yapıcı from Taksim Solidarity, Özay set up his studio in June and worked to complete his piece at Karaköy Branch.
Haydar Özay’s work issues the symbols of the resistance while remembering those who lost duting the resistance.
Who is Haydar Özay?
Painter Haydar Özay graduated in 1996 from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.
Between 2006 and 2007, he completed “The Grand Picture of Istanbul” in Şan Theater Hall. In 2010, he demonstrated his interest in various sorts of materials in his work entitled “Acrylics of Paper” with 40 different pieces.
On June 1, 2014, he started working on his new painting on Gezi Resistance following a year of prep work. (AS/BM)
