M.A.A. who set Müjdat Gezen Art Center in İstanbul’s Kadıköy district on fire has been released on probation by the court which he was referred to for arrest following the prosecution questioning.
According to a report by Toygun Atilla and Ali Aksoyer’s from Doğan News Agency, M.A.A. admitted guilt and said “I could have burned the entire building if I wanted to”.
M.A.A. added that he regretted of what he did.
About what happened on the night in question, M.A.A. said:
“I left alone by myself on the night of the incident at around 11 p.m. I told households I’d walk around a bit and return.
“After I left, I went to a gas station and got some gasoline and poured into my plastic bottle. I arrived at the scene. I set the building on fire after I poured the gasoline on the exterior wall of the building.
“I left the place as the flames blazed away, returned home. I slept like nothing happened”.
Governor Şahin: There is no terror link
İstanbul Governor Vasip Şahin said the arsonist has no link with a terror organization and added:
“He was drunk. Our investigation continues”. (EKN/TK)
