Assist. Prof. Dr. Esra Mungan has been transferred to ward from discipline cell. Mungan has been imprisoned as of March 15.
Mungan’s lawyer, Meriç Eyüboğlu posted the following tweet today: “Esra Mungan’s lockdown is over, finally moved to ward. Thanks to Veli Ağbaba”.
People’s Republican Party (CHP) Malatya MP, Veli Ağbaba on Twitter said, “Lockdown imposed on academic Esra Mungan kept at Bakırköy Women Prison. Her dorm has been changed”.
Lawyer Eyüboğlu added that the other two arrested academics, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kıvanç Ersoy and Assist. Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Kaya are still kept in one-person cells.
Objection against the arrest rejected
Lawyer Eyüboğlu declared that objection against arrest of the academics is concluded today:
“Esra Mungan, Muzaffer Kaya, and Kıvanç Ersoy was arrested on March 15. According to Article 105 of Code of Criminal Procedure, our objection to be concluded within three days was assessed today.
“Our objection against the arrest was rejected on standard reasons like quality and nature of the charge, available evidence”.
What had happened?
Assist. Prof. Dr. Esra Mungan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kıvanç Ersoy, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Kaya were signees of the declaration entitled “We will not be a party to this crime”.
The stated that they are insistent on their demand for peace in the statement they issued on behalf of Peace for Academics/İstanbul group.
They were arrested on March 15, 2016 by the court they were sent for arrest.
Esra Mungan was staying at Bakırköy Prison in one-person cell with lawyer Ayşe Başar who was arrested on March 23. (AS/TK)
