Ahmet Abdulkadir, Editor-in-Chief of Ayn Vatan newspaper, issued weekly in Arabic in Urfa has been exposed to an armed attack yesterday (June 12) around evening hours.
The car in Kadıoğlu neighbourhood which Abdulkadir was in has been assaulted by two unknown perpetrators with gun on a motorcycle without licence plate.
In the attack Syrian journalist Ahmet Abdulkadir has been severely injured. Amed Abdulkadir, hit on the head with a bullet has been taken to Mehmet Akif İnan Training and Research Hospital and is in treatment.
Abddulkadir’s 20-year-old brother İbrahim Abdulkadir had also been killed and ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) had claimed responsibility. Both brothers were working for Ayn Vatan weekly. İbrahim Abdulkadir was also a member of the anti-ISIS and anti-Assad citizen journalism group; Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently (RSS).
Four Syrian journalists killed in Syria
Two Syrian journalists, İbrahim Abdulkadir and Firaz El Hamadi were killed at the house where they lived together in Urfa on October 30, 2015.
Journalist Naci El Jerf was shot to death in his head by unidentified people in Antep in the middle of the stree on December 27. Jerf was known with his documentaries about the ISIS.
On April 13, Halep Today’s correspondent Muhammed Zahir el Şerkat had been attacked by unknown persons with gun while walking on the street in Antep. The journalist who was injured in his head and hand had lost his life in the hospital he had been taken to.
ISIS had claimed responsibility for the deaths of all four journalists.
Journalists had met Erdoğan
Syrian journalists had come together with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on January 22. In the meeting, the problems Syrian journalists had been facing in Turkey had been handled. (EA/DG)
