Universities across Turkey resume their Gezi Resistance as graduates walk with pictures, banners and slogans on Lice incident, those who died due to police violence. Many carried pictures of Ethem Sarısülük, Abdullah Cömert and Mehmet Ayvalıtaş - who died during Gezi Resistance. Others carried humorous banners.
Recent commencement ceremonies were held in the following universities:
Istanbul University, METU, Marmara University, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Namık Kemal University, Ankara University, Hacettepe University, Galatasaray University.
Istanbul University
Istanbul University graduates walked with slogans and banners related to the release of policeman who is suspected to have Ethem Sarısülük.
METU
Each in faculty in Middle East Technical University (METU) joined protests with a special slogan according to their specialities.
Electronic: "We are senior electricians, but haven’t seen such resistance"
Philosophy: "You can’t bath in the same TOMA twice"
Space Sciences: "Your 327-seat spacecraft is ready, PM. Get on, we will try something new. Space Lobby"
Architecture: "Architecture for people, not for profit"
Physics: "We are bits of Einstein's hair"
Education : "Çapulcu generation will be our masterpiece"
Construction : "We are as resistant as concrete"
Environment Engineering: "Our cause is not only about a bunch of trees"
Public Administration: “Is there any public left to be administrated?"
Management: "You took freedom from us with a plan. We will get it back with interest rate”
Computer Engineering: "Who robbed the municipality in front of the fountain?"
Food Engineering: "We didn’t tell you to never use pepper. You can make sauce”
Marmara University
Marmara University’s Political Science Faculty also joined Gezi Resistance protests, as previosly did law and communication faculties. Some students carried banners saying “Don’t forget Roboski”.
Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University
MSGSU students redesigned their college mascot (owl), portraying it into an owl wearing gas mask.
Galatasaray University
Some banners in Galatasaray University said: "Don’t break up social outrages, analyze them!” "Great to be a [law] gradute, if only there was justice”.
Namık Kemal University
Namık Kemal University Commencement Ceremony protest banners included “chapulliers” - a word to symbolize Gezi Park protestors.
Hacettepe University
Hacettepe University Medical School students marched with a banner "We know how to save life, not how to end them” - a slogan that was signed with the hashtag #resistdoctors".
Ankara University
Penguins - symbol of Gezi Resistance - and Nazım Hikmet - famous Turkish poet - stood side by side in Ankara University. (BK/BM)
