Imprisoned academic, Muzaffer Kaya has answered the question we sent as freedom watch in front of Silivri prison continues.
We asked Assist. Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Kaya of prison conditions, his expectations from the hearing on April 22 and his messages.
Kaya said after they were put in the same room with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kıvanç Ersoy, another came tried over insulting the President came. He expressed that he believes that they are going to be released, and touched on the importance of their trial in terms of Turkey’s history of democracy.
“We are three people”
We’ve learned that you have been taken into the same ward after being kept in three-person cells. How is your condition in the ward, are your needs being met?
I and Kıvanç are in the same room. A worker fellow being tried over insulting the President came now. We are three people now, and we are all fine. Our needs such as mail, book, etc. are being met. We don’t experience any problems.
“I believe we will be released”
Your trial will be heard on April 22, which is the same day for trials of Can Dündar and Erdem Gül. Participation calls are being named under the title of “Justice Feast”, what are your expectations from the hearing?
The indictment is so inconsistent and baseless that I really don’t know on what ground they will persist to keep us here after April 22. It is getting more and more surrealist.
However, I believe we will be released on April 22. Release of Can Dündar and Erdem Gül along with us will be a huge gain in terms of democratic struggle.
What is your message to public?

Borders of democratic struggle arena will be drawn again in our hearing. April 22 is going to be a milestone in terms of Turkey’s history of democracy. They want to silence democratic opposition in Turkey’s west over our imprisonment. I believe they will fail. (BK/TK)
