Marking the start of the anti-war week, which will continue until September 30, Kuresel-BAK members opened a stand at the Tunel Square in Istanbul where a press conference was held.
Reading a statement on behalf of Kuresel-BAK, Zeynep Tanbay referred to increasing reports over the past week that the United States was preparing to attack Iran and said "One wishes so say what kind of insolence is this, what kind of shamelessness, what kind of lie.
Without having to account for anything, as if they have not turned the Middle East into a bloodbath, as if those who have committed the most serious act of terror in the Middle East since 2001 are not Bush and his team, now they are saying they will attack Iran."
Saying that accomplices to Bush's war policies were going one after another, Tanbay added, "Aznar in Spain and Berlusconi in Italy were topped. British Prime Minister Blair has said he would resign. The support received from Bush from the US public opinion is dragging on the floor".
Promising to be on the streets alongside all anti-war activists in the world for a week, Tanbay continued:
"Throughout the world we will shout for a whole week at deafening levels to the war, occupation, petrol and dollar maniacs saying 'Bush is a murderer, he is a terrorist, imperialist'. Long live the brotherhood of the people. Iran will not be another Iraq".
Activities
Following the statement, a theatre groups by the name Semaver Kumpanya joined the activity with music displays against war and Kuresel-BAK members headed off to the US consulate in Istanbul on bicycles.
Activities that will continue until September 30 will include the opening of anti-war stands in the Beyoglu, Kadikoy and Uskudar districts of Istanbul, various public gathering and talks, press statements, concerts and rallies. (KO/II/YE)
