The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) has announced the consumer and producer indexes for December 2019.
According to the figures shared by the Institute, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), also termed consumer inflation, has increased by 0.74 percent in comparison with the previous month, by 11.84 percent in comparison with December 2019 and, thus, with the same month last year and it has increased by 15.18 percent when compared to 12-month averages.

Highest increase in alcoholic beverages
The highest annual increase in consumer prices has been recorded in alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 43.12 percent. It is followed by education with 14.46 percent and by health and miscellaneous goods and services with 13.63 percent.
The lowest annual increase has been been in communication with 3.16 percent. It is followed by clothing and footwear with 4.53 percent, by recreation and culture with 7.03 percent and by furnishing and household equipments with 9.79 percent.

Highest monthly decrease in clothing and footwear
While the highest monthly decrease has been in clothing and footwear with 1.91 percent, it is followed by recreation and culture with 0.11 percent.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages with 2.93 percent, transportation with 0.57 percent, health and miscellaneous goods and services with 0.42 percent are the main groups with high monthly increases.

Prices of 253 items have increased
In December, within average prices of 418 items in the consumer price index, average prices of 34 items remained unchanged while average prices of 253 items increased and those of 131 items decreased. (HA/SD)
