Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Melih Gökçek sued Armenian-origined journalist Hayko Bağdat over charges related to “insult” and “igniting to hatred” when he ironically wrote on Twitter: “The city of Ankara looks like an Armenian. Shame on you.”
Gökçek also claimed that Bağdat launched a campaign on Twitter under the hashtag "melihgökçekwasarmenian”.
“Melih Gökçek sued me for 10,000 liras for calling him an Armenian. We will have lots of fun,” Bağdat wrote to break the news.
“Gökçek is Turkish citizen who loves his country and nation,” advocates Fatih Atalay and Çağrı Alkan wrote on Gökçek’s complaint letter to Ankara Prosecutor’s Office.
“Those who are experiencing the bloating of my client’s political triumphs as well as the tremendous changes the city of Ankara went through are constantly attempting to attack in different platforms.” (EÖ/BM)
