Allegations of torture in detention in Urfa

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) deputy Züleyha Gülüm has submitted a parliamentary question to Vice-President Fuat Oktay about the allegations of torture during detention in the southeastern Urfa province.
Citing news reports and the information they received, Gülüm said three people were detained by Urfa anti-terror police on September 4 and two of them were not allowed to meet their attorney
Gülüm noted that attorney Sezai Akın said there were bruises and redness on his client's body and bloodstains on his shirt. The other two clients were also tortured, according to the lawyer.
"In this meeting, the citizens stated that they were taken out of the detention room for 'interviewing' and were tortured for hours," Gülüm said.
The lawyer also told the HDP that one of the detained people, Mehmet Sait Yardımcı, had heart disease and previously had a surgery, which made staying in detention conditions risky for him, the deputy stated.
Saying that there has been an increase in torture, maltreatment, threats and insults by security forces, Gülüm accused the government of encouraging security forces for violations by making them know that they will be protected even if they violate the right to life.
She asked the following questions to the Vice-President:
Is it true that citizens named Hamdullah Esen, Mehmet Sait Yardımcı and Teyüp Temel were subjected to torture and maltreatment by Urfa anti-terror police?
What is the reason for preventing lawyers' meetings with their clients for hours?
What is the reason for unlawfully interrogating citizens for hours under the name of "interviewing."
What is the health condition of citizens who were allegedly subjected to torture and maltreatment?
Are you considering opening administrative and judicial investigations about the anti-terror police officers?
How many state officials were investigated for allegations of torture in the last 18 years? How many of them were penalized for this reason? (EMK/VK)
