Put on trial in the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) Yüksekova case in Hakkari province, 30 defendants, including the dismissed and arrested Yüksekova Co-Mayor Remziye Yaşar, had their final hearing at the Hakkari 1st Heavy Penal Court on Friday (October 1).
As reported by local Yüksekova Haber news website, Remziye Yaşar attended the hearing from the Elazığ Women's Closed Prison via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS). The hearing was also followed by the Human Rights Association (İHD) and Lawyers for Freedom Association (ÖHD) as well as the lawyers of the 30 defendants on trial along with Yaşar.
Yaşar sentenced to 17.5 years in prison
Pronouncing its verdict, the court board has ruled that Remziye Yaşar, Vahit Şahinoğlu and Mehmet Çapraz shall be sentenced to 17 years, 6 months in prison on charge of "being members of a terrorist organization". The court has also ruled that Yaşar's arrest shall continue.
2 journalists sentenced to prison
27 people including Yüksekova Haber's grant holder Necip Çapraz and Hakkari News' director general Abdülmenaf Düzenci have been sentenced to 8 years, 9 months in prison on the same charge.
The other convicted defendants are: "Tacettin Safalı, Yılmaz Güneyli, Yılmaz Gözyan, Abidin Eniş, Naif Öztekin, Nazif Ataman, Arif Karay, Sabri Tümen, Abdülkerim Akdoğan, Songül Öğmen, Süleyman Sabri Mavi, Abdülhalik Özdel, Metin Yaşar, Muhyettin Önal, Nahide Yıldız Pulat, Hurşit Altekin, M. Emin Seven, Hüsnü Beşer, Abdurahman Gemicioğlu, Ruken Yetişkin, Cemil Bor, Hüsnü Bulgan, Seracettin Fırat, Ahmet Öner ve Reşit Örbey."
The court has also imposed judicial control measures on 27 people. (KÖ/SD)
