Kayseri 3rd High Criminal Court postponed the first hearing of Ali Ismail Korkmaz case to February 3, 2014. Originally, the hearing was set to November 20 at Eskişehir 2nd High Criminal Court.
The court grounded its decision on the “busy schedule” and “possible return dates of procedural orders”.
Ali Ismail Korkmaz (19) died at a hospital on July 10 after allegedly being attacked by a group of civil police officers at a Gezi Resistance protest in the central province of Eskişehir.
Responding to an inquiry by Eskişehir 2nd High Criminal Court on the “public security threat of the trial”, Eskişehir Governor’s Office and Prosecutor’s Office affirmed the action to relocate the trial venue.
Supreme Court of Appeals 5th Penal Chamber also confirmed the decision for reasons associated with “public security”.
8 defendants (4 active-duty police officer and 4 civilians) have been ordered to stand trial. (AS/BM)
