The MAK Research and Consultancy Company has shared the results of its first election survey in 2021. As part of this public poll, the participants were asked a series of questions, including, "For which party would you vote in there were elections in Turkey tomorrow?"
According to the results of the surveys conducted from January 14 to 26, the People's Alliance of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) would get 44.1 percent, which would not suffice to elect a President as it requires half the votes.
Considering that there is a 10-percent electoral threshold in Turkey, the results have also shown that if Turkey had elections tomorrow, the MHP and the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) would not enter the Parliament.
Floating votes: 10 percent
As part of its election polls, the MAK company contacted 2,850 people from 51 provinces of Turkey, including 30 metropolitan cities, and the study was conducted by using a multi-scanning model.
When the citizens were asked about the parties they would vote for in case of a general election, their answers were as follows:
Ruling AKP: 32.2 percent
Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP): 22.5 percent
İYİ Party: 12.3 percent
HDP: 8 percent
MHP: 7.7 percent
Future Party: 2.2 percent
DEVA Party: 2 percent
Floating votes/ Undecided: 10 percent
When the floating votes, namely the ones who do not know whom to vote for, are distributed among the parties, their votes are are as follows:
AKP: 35.6 percent
CHP: 24.9 percent
İYİ Party: 13.6 percent
HDP: 8.9 percent
MHP: 8.5 percent
In other words, after the floating votes are distributed, the MHP and HDP still cannot pass the 10-percent electoral threshold.
49 percent want a snap election
The participants were also asked, "Do you think that a snap general election is necessary in our country?" 49 percent of the participants answered this question in the affirmative while 41 percent said that it was not necessary. 10 percent of the participants were undecided.
One of the questions in the survey was the term of Joe Biden in office as the US President. 46 percent of the participants said that there would be negative developments about Turkey in his term in office.
Attacks on journalists, politicians: 'Isolated'
When they were asked a question about the recent attacks on journalists and politicians in Ankara, 28 percent of them expressed their concerns that Turkey might be pushed into a "fight among the siblings." 41 percent said that the attacks were isolated incidents." (SO/SD)
