Vice Prime Minister Yalçın Akdoğan making statements on NTV live broadcast regarding resolution process, expressed that conditions must be re-established to negotiate with imprisoned Kurdistan Workers' Part (PKK) Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Akdoğan in response to a question as to the resolution process has been put into "cold storage" said as follows:
"PKK hasn't left Turkey in 2003 and hasn't done things that it should. Afterwards, Kobane incidents have engendered a fracture, that was when the process has broken off. Later they asked to resume the process. We have enacted homeland security package, the organization was supposed to leave Turkey and switch to total inaction, but they didn't".
"We put in effort to carry it through"
"After June 7 election too revolutionist people waged war and started terror acts. The operations were brought into life upon that. These operations didn't start for election. We are the owner and architect of resolution process and put in effort to carry it through.
"We said democratic initiative, they sabotaged it with Khabur. We said national unity and fraternity, they sabotaged it with Sylvan. They tried the same thing in Kobane and election. We will make it continue but the factors poisoning the process have to be excluded".
Fight against terror will persist
Solution process, also known as the Kurdish–Turkish peace process, is an ongoing peace process, which aims to resolve the Kurdish–Turkish conflict. The conflict has been ongoing since 1984 and resulted in some 40,000-100,000 mortal casualties and great economic losses for Turkey as well as high damage to the Kurdish population. Though there was a unilateral cease-fire between 1999 and 2004, the sides failed to gain understanding and the conflict became increasingly violent. The 2013 truce was working until September 2014, when it ended due to spillover of the Syrian Civil War. Source: Wikipedia |
"Fight against terror will persist as long as terror exists but resolution process is important as well.
"We don't hold back from democratization, reforms, services, and investment. Our citizens haven't given the 70 percent of support for operations to merely resume resolution process. The citizens have reacted against the organization for it being trouble maker."
"Total inaction"
Akdoğan responded to question "What will be the new codes of the process? Is İmralı* still in the equation?" as follows:
"Our focus now is on to cut PKK off at the pass. Declaration of autonomy has collapsed, revolutionary people war has collapsed, isolated areas have collapsed, attacks in large groups have collapsed. Collapsing and downgrading these are of vital importance in making headway as to fighting against terror.
"PKK has to leave Turkey, switch to total inaction and end all these illegal things. Other issues may be discussed after that. Relevant institutions of the state with meeting Öcalan in İmralı was made by previous governments too.
The conditions I mentioned should develop in order to reach a point in terms of the process. They did many bad things during the process and buried Öcalan there alive. It is none of our concern, our concern now is our own policies." (AS/TK)
