UN Women has picked actress Demet Evgar as its first goodwill ambassador in Turkey.
The partnership that will continue for two years has been announced with a campaign titled "I am a Woman" (#BenKadınım).
The campaign aims to make women gain awareness about their position in society, unite them against violence and discrimination and use application mechanisms, UN Women said in a press release.

Being picked as the goodwill ambassador is "a great pride but also a great responsibility," Evgar said.
"With the awareness of this responsibility, I want to inspire more women by strengthening my previous work with the partnership of UN Women and bring the story of women together with more women.
"We set out on this path by saying, 'I am a woman, I am aware, I am changing and I am transforming.' We would like to be able to say, 'I am a woman and I am against violence. I am a woman and I want to work, I demand caring services for my children. I am a woman and I want to access services for my needs.'
"Many women are born into violence, inequality that they are subjected to. I want to walk together with them and present role model stories to them for them to speak up when they are subjected to violence and are faced with inequality."
