In treatment since July 2, prominent playwright, actor and stage director Ferhan Şensoy has lost his life at the age of 70.
Taken to the İstanbul Medical Faculty Hospital for internal bleeding on July 2, 2021, Şensoy reportedly died at 2.30 a.m. today (August 31).
In a statement posted on the official social media account of the Ortaoyuncular theater, which Ferhan Şensoy founded, it is said, "We are deeply saddened that we lost Ferhan Şensoy, the founder of our theater and master, last night at the hospital where he had been in treatment for some time despite all efforts. We express our condolences to all his loved ones..."
Ferhan Şensoy's daughter Derya Şensoy has also tweeted, "I am really very sorry. I love you so much, dad."
About Ferhan Şensoy
Theater, cinema and TV actor; novel, essay, memoir, theater, TV series and script writer; founder of the Ortaoyuncular traditional Theater Group.
He was born in Samsun in 1951; his first stories and poems were published in Yeni Ufuklar (New Horizons) and Soyut (Abstract) magazines in 1969. He had his first professional theater experience in 1971 after graduating from high school. He studied and performed theater in France and Canada with Jerome Savary and Andre-Louis Perinetti in 1972-1975.
Founding his own theater group Ortaoyuncular in 1980, Ferhan Şensoy was handed over a symbolic award for traditional theater titled, Hasan Efendi Turban, named after a pioneering comedian, by Münir Özkul in 1989. He handed over the turban to late Rasim Öztekin in 2016.
